However, until he reaches the age of 14 or 15, he is considered as under-age for enrolment into the mainstream curriculum. For an under-age monk, one should train himself to be competent enough in Tibetan Language as the medium of instruction here is Tibetan.

It normally takes about 24 years to complete the training program for a monk. After two year course on ‘ Science of Mind’ and “Science of Reasoning” that introduces the monks to Buddhist Philosophical Systems. This is followed by seven-year course on ‘Prajnaparamita’-Perfection of Wisdom Buddhist Philosophy. Thereafter, one engages in studying ‘Madhyamika’-Middle Way Buddhist Philosophy for three years. Another four years are devoted to studying ‘Vinaya’ Monastic Ethics. In the final two years of study at the monastery for Geshe degree- a degree equivalent to Masters degree, they study on ‘Abhidharma’ Treasury of Knowledge.Morning Debate Practice

However, those aspiring to achieve Geshe Lharampa degree-a degree equivalent to Ph.D in modern academia, they must enroll into the Gelug Board Examination. After six years of successful rigorous training in this Board examination, they earn much coveted Geshe Lharampa degree and title-the highest degree conferred upon the monks in Tibetan Buddhism of Gelug Tradition.
Alongside the formal training, they also embark on meditation, retreat and prayers in the main prayer hall on regular basis. Most of the prayers at the congregation are performed on the request from devotees.

Besides traditional curriculum on Buddhist studies, the society also has a school for younger monks. Since the need of modern education including subjects like English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science for younger interested monks was strongly felt, the school was established. The main purpose of establishing this school was to provide modern education to all the interested young monks in this society so that with their background of modern academia accompanied by their knowledge on traditional Buddhism they could make contribution towards promoting Buddhism in non-Tibetan speaking people around the world. However, it is not compulsory for the young monks to join school. The school has classes from I to X. The school from class I to V is a grant-in-aid under the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, New Delhi. Under this grant, the school receives mid-day meal scheme and salary for three qualified teachers.

The school starts from 8 in the morning beginning with morning assembly and finishes the morning session for lunch at 11. 15. The school resumes in the afternoon at 1.30 and gets over at 3.40 p.m.
The school has 25 teachers and 295 students.
Apart from conducting a half yearly and annual examination, intermittent test called term test is also conducted to assess the progress in the standard of the education. Besides examination, the school conducts many co-curricular activities to ensure over all development in the school.
